'Canary Brilliants' Itoh Peony Root

$52.00
SOLD OUT

If you’re not familiar with “Itoh” peonies, you’re in for a treat! They are a cross between regular Herbaceous and the hugely expensive Tree peonies, combining the BEST traits of both.

  1. Exceptional Flower Quality — Itohs have HUGE ruffled blooms in rich, saturated colors not available in traditional Herbaceous varieties.

  2. Longer Blooming Window — While Herbaceous peonies often bloom all at once, Itohs have an extended bloom period; in fact, they have the longest blooming season among all Peonies (about 3-4 weeks).

  3. Sturdy Stems & Excellent Vase Life — Itoh peonies are well known for these qualities — they are excellent garden performers (with strong stems that don’t flop over after rain or wind, and are simply other-worldly as cut flowers.

  4. Disease Resistance — Foliage stays disease free longer (thanks to their Tree peony parentage), and is more resistant to botrytis blight, a common fungal issue in Herbaceous peonies.

Itoh Peony ‘Canary Brilliants’ produces stunning double blossoms that emerge creamy yellow with apricot undertones and gracefully age to pale canary yellow. They take a couple years to settle in, but then become absolute showstoppers — well worth the wait!

The lush, tidy plant tolerates weather well and rarely flops, becoming 26-28” tall and wide after a few years.

We offer ONLY large 3-5+ eye roots. Peonies rarely bloom the first spring after planting but will reward you with a few blooms in year 2, more in year 3 and MANY more from that point on … in fact, they’ll bloom every year for DECADES!

Peonies thrive in Zones 3 to 8.

HOW TO GROW

We include complete growing advice with every order, but for now, please plan to plant your peony roots in the ground right away in a spot that receives full sun and has good drainage. In very hot climates, peonies don’t mind some afternoon shade.

If you can’t plant them right away, keep the roots in their bag in a cool, dark and dry spot. A cool garage should work great. But don’t forget about them — they need to be planted before the ground freezes.
