Fall is the BEST time to plant Peonies!

We’re delighted to offer both Herbaceous (the garden peonies you’re likely most used to) AND Itoh Peonies, which are a cross between Herbaceous and the hugely expensive Tree Peonies. We sell only large 3-5+ eye size roots (a stem grows from each eye). Peonies rarely bloom their first spring, but don’t worry. You’ll get a few blooms in year 2, more in year 3 and many, MANY more from that point on … and for DECADES to come! They’re remarkably fuss-free and long-lived plants!

For now, think about where you want to plant them. Peonies need to be in a spot that gets full sun and has good drainage. In very hot climates, they appreciate afternoon shade. They don’t do well in containers. If you can’t plant the roots right away, keep them in the vented bag we send them in, in a cool, dark and dry place. A cool garage works well. BUT DON’T FORGET THEM — they need to be planted before the ground freezes.
