'Duchesse De Nemours' (Double)
This magnificent heirloom is highly celebrated as the gold standard of white double peonies — in fact, it’s one of the most sought-after cut flowers in the floral industry!
It’s stood the test of time as a global garden favorite since it was introduced in France in 1856 because of its absolute reliability, delicious fragrance and classic 5-6” blooms. Plus, the plant naturally produces numerous side buds, which greatly extends its overall blooming period.
Fragrance: Strong
Bloom Time: Mid-season
Height: 36” with strong, erect stems that handle the large flowers well, but it typically benefits from a supportive peony hoop or stake to keep the massive, rain-soaked double heads from bowing after a heavy downpour
HOW TO GROW
We include complete growing advice with every order but for now, plan to plant your peony roots in the ground right away in a spot that receives full sun and has good drainage. In very hot climates, peonies don’t mind some afternoon shade.
If you can’t plant them right away, keep the roots in their bag in a cool, dark and dry spot. A cool garage should work great. But don’t forget about them — they need to be planted before the ground freezes.
Peonies thrive in Zones 3 to 8.
